Dutch soprano Iris Korfker just started at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) on the Pre Opera course continuing under the tutelage of Ryland Davies. She did her Postgraduate Diploma at Trinity College of Music achieving a distinction for her final recital,
studying with Alison Wells. Iris
also completed her undergraduate degree there in 2006. In her final year she
received the Eva Malpass Scholarship and performed the role of Blanche in
TCM's college production of Les Dialogues des Carmelites by Poulenc in
2007, for which Iris was awarded the Paul Simm Opera Prize.
Her most recent roles have been Roselinda in Die Fledermaus by Strauss with Brent Opera, Mozart's Queen of the Night, understudy (Magic Flute) with Co-Opera Co, Madame Herz (Der Schauspieldirector) with Opera at Home, Konstanze (Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail) with Situation Opera, Michaela (Carmen, Bizet) with Brent Opera, Procride (Cefalo e Procride by Bonocini) with Clemens non Papa Consort, Fiordiligi in Mozarts Cosi fan Tutte and Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro with Situation Opera. Other roles include Pamina, 2nd Lady and 2nd Spirit (Magic Flute, Operaplayhouse, Dartington International Summer School, British Youth Opera, Goodenough College) Suki Tawdry (Beggars Opera, TCM) Belinda, Woman, 1st and 2nd Witch (Dido and Aeneas, Operaplayhouse, Alderburough Music Festival) Cretian (Idomeneo, Hampstead Garden Opera). Roles in Opera Scenes include Queen of the Night (Magic Flute, Mozart), Susanna (Marriage of Figaro, Mozart with Opera South) Semele (L'Egisto, Cavalli with RAM) Sophie (der Rosenkavelier, Strauss) Flaminia (Il Mondo Della Luna, Hayden) La Fee (Cendrillon, Massenet) Poppea (L'incoronazione di Poppea, Monteverdi) Choruses Iris has performed in: Julius Scesare, Idomeneo, Magic Flute, Cry of Innocence, Our man in Havannah, Saint of Bleeker street, Dido and Aeneas, Cosi fan Tute.
Other performing highlights have been the Four Last Songs by Strauss with the Exeter Music Group Symphony Orchestra Exeter Cathedral, Mozart's Exsultate Jubilate with Situation Opera Orchestra, Haydn The Creation with Warwick and Kenilworth Choral Society, Mozart Requiem in St Martin in the Fields with London Music Arts Orchestra and in Worksop with Ryton Chorale, Laudate Pueri Dominum and Dixit Dominus by Handel with the Thomas Tallis Society, regular soloist in the French Quille Festival and with the Cheltenham Bach Choir conducted by Stephen Jackson. Iris has been involved with the premiere tour and recording of "Out of the Darkness".
Iris has had masterclasses with, John Upperton, John Ramster, Andrew Sinclair (director), Yvonne Minton, John Mark-Ainsley, Emma Kirkby, Esther Salaman, Adrian Thompson, Evelyn Tubb and Noelle Barker. Coaches Iris has worked with include Mary Hill, Robert Aldwinckle, Kelvin Lim, Eugene Asti, Ubaldo Fabbri. Some Conductors she has performed with as a soloist are Stephen Jackson, Gregory Rose, Marion Wood, Michael Lloyd and Jessica Cottis. Her singing has brought her all over Europe.
Last year Iris was a quarter finalist in the BBC Radio
2 Dame Kiri Te Kanawa Opera Prize receving a maserclass with Te Kanawa and last October Iris was invited to lecture and perform at the first ever Royal School of Church Music Conference in Nigeria.
